The Race for 2022 NBL Canada MVP Begins
The race for 2022 NBL Canada MVP is on and for the first time fans will be able to cast their vote for who should receive the highest individual honour. Luckily those who have closely been following the tenth NBLC season will have some great options in choosing the league's most outstanding player.
Billy White has made a good case for him retaining his title, in doing so being the league's first repeat MVP. Even though his team has not seen much success in 2022, White has been an outstanding performer on both ends and has regularly led Windsor on the stat sheet. He has made a double-double in all but four games as well as one triple-double, in addition to being the league's top rebounder. All components of a worthy MVP candidate.
He will surely face stiff competition in the vote as this NBLC season has seen some equally exceptional season-long showings from faces old and new.
The Sudbury Five's Jaylen Bland has been leading the scoring by some distance across the entire league. Despite coming to the 2022 season late, he made up for lost time with two thirty-point performances in first three games. These would be the first of many, Bland went on to have a hugely productive season which including him putting up the best scoring performance of any player, with 47 points.
Another prime candidate is the London Lightning's Cameron Forte, currently the leader in points per minute across all of the NBLC. He began the season with twenty-point double-doubles in his first two games and did not stop there. His most successful stretch came midway through the season where he had six double-doubles in a row, one of which saw him score a season-high 44 against Windsor.
Elsewhere the highest points total of 2022 belongs to Joel Kindred of the KW Titans, putting him in the running. Scoring in double digits more often than not on the season, Kindred's team-leading 21.0 scoring average speaks for itself, but his actions on the court show why he has been such a key component in the Titans' success.
An outside look would be Kindred's team mate Eric Ferguson. His outstanding energy, athleticism and IQ have made him one of the biggest revelations this season. He has reached double digits in all but one game on the season, in addition to making nine double-doubles in what has been an exceptional debut NBLC season.
The choice for MVP is not just restricted to these five players, anyone could be eligible to take home the title. This could include top defenceman Zena Edosomwan, leading three-point shooter Quinnel Brown and Sudbury's subline all-rounder Jeremy Harris.
Fans can cast their vote through the official NBL Canada Instagram page on Saturday May 7th. Jump on over if you want to have your say on which players should be acknowledged and rewarded for their efforts in 2022.
