NBLC9 Greatest Hits: Marcus Capers

Leading everyone in the NBL Canada in steals as well as finishing in the top five for blocks and assists, Marcus Capers has been a stand-out defensive player in the 2019-20 season and his efforts have earned him the Defensive Player of the Year honours.

In addition, he also finished second on the London Lightning squad for rebounds (6.6 per game) and fifth for scoring, with a scoring average of 13.2 points per game. It has been a very impressive season from the Lightning forward, here are three of his best individual performances:

February 9th vs Halifax Hurricanes

A close game for its first three quarters, when London finally took control and outscored the Hurricanes 35 to 18 in the fourth to win out 112-97. Capers may not have led the scoring but did register 16 points while putting in a rock solid performance everywhere else on the floor.

He was highly active on the defensive glass, grabbing eight rebounds in the contest, and kept finding his teammates in advantageous positions, dishing 12 assists in what was an impressive, understated performance from the

February 13th vs Sudbury Five

Spearheading London’s defence in this one, Capers made an early statement on the defensive end early on and in the second half he started piling on the points as London tried to down a persistent Sudbury. He finished the game one assist shy of a triple-double, as he scored 22 and grabbed 12 total rebounds in a game that finished in thrilling fashion, the final result decided by a single point.

February 15th vs St. John's Edge

Capers opened the game's scoring and had eight points in the first quarter. It was in the second half where he shone the most, though, scoring twenty points in the latter two quarters. This unfortunately wouldn't be enough to halt the second half comeback from the St. John's Edge, but his consolation was a team and season high 29 points on his home court.
