NBLC Recap: February 2nd
It was a three-game slate in the NBL Canada on February 2nd, one that the losing sides would not be wanting to repeat.
Sudbury Five vs KW Titans
Jaylen Bland got Sudbury off to an early 8-1 lead in an opening quarter where they made over half of all their shot attempts, coming back in the second they took the game's biggest lead of 13.
In the third quarter the Titans kept up the pressure on Sudbury, who had to fight to keep their lead.After tying the scores at the start of the fourth quarter, the Titans put up ten unanswered to take their first lead of the game. With Sudbury's earlier consistency now missing, Akeem Scott guided the Titans to complete the comeback, beating Sudbury by a final score of 108-104.
Sudbury saw 23 points from Jaylen Bland and 27 from their bench, while Scott had 24 for the victorious Titans, who also saw 21 points and 11 rebounds from Justin Moss and a game-high 32 points and 15 total boards from Akeem Ellis.
Moncton Magic vs Island Storm
Robbie Robinson helped the Storm navigate a back-and-forth first quarter and come out on top, finished off the opening period with nine unanswered points to lead Moncton 27-19. Billy White led the response from the Magic, scoring ten of their 34 second quarter points, they led by fourteen at half time.
After Moncton took their biggest lead of the game, 12 points, Jonathan Lloyd tried to initiate a comeback for the Storm, but with the Magic keeping up the pressure from the field on offence, they maintained their lead and closed out the win in the fourth quarter. The final score 108-100 in their favour.
Lloyd led all on the floor with an outstanding 28 points, while Marcus Lewis was the Magic's leading scorer with 18 and Jeremiah Mordi and Billy White both finished with double-doubles in the win.
London Lightning vs Windsor Express
London opened with a 7-0 run and did not look back. The visitor's offensive unit dominated the first-half scoring, despite the best efforts of Kirk Williams Jr to keep Windsor afloat. The hosts trailed by 16 at half time and the Lightning showed them no mercy, going on to increase the gap to 26 midway through the final period as they cruised to an easy win.
Williams led Windsor with 26 points, Kemy Osse recorded a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds and DeShaun Thrower had an impressive 21 points off the bench in the loss. Meanwhile, seven London players finished in double digits; one, Marcus Capers, was the team leader with 22 and AJ Gaines had 14 to go with 16 rebounds in the 120-98 win.
