NBLC Recap: November 25th

The summary of an action-packed night in the NBL Canada.

Bruce Massey Jr and Kenny Jones both had 27 points for the Cape Breton Highlanders, who also saw 18 bench points from Jamal Reynolds as they hosted the London Lightning on Sunday. It was a close game throughout, with only a handful of points separating the teams. London hit back at the Highlanders from the field, with Marvin Phillips scoring a team-high 19 points off the bench. He was one of six Lightning players to score in double digits, one of them being Garrett Williamson who scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Cape Breton lead 110-109 in the final play of the game, but Xavier Moon made a three-pointer with 3.4 seconds left on the clock - one that would win the game for London.

There were 28 threes in the second game in a row between the Moncton Magic and the St. John’s Edge. By working the defensive boards, pouncing on loose balls and being quick to mobilise on offence, the Magic had the advantage in this one. Never looking back after taking an early lead, Moncton had great production from their starting five and saw 24 points from Isaiah Tate off the bench.

Guillaume Boucard had his best game yet for the Edge, scoring 21 points, but that would not be enough for the win. Moncton's twelve-point victory takes their record to 5-0.

Chris Early and Frank Bartley were doing it all for the Saint John Riptide, their respective 17 and 16 points making them the top two highest scorers. Despite that, the Riptide were outclassed on their home court by the Halifax Hurricanes.

Halifax were dominant from close range and contested every loose ball, which saw them go on to lead Saint John by 18 points in the third quarter. The Riptide put up 25 points in the final quarter, which closed the gap, but Halifax found the chances when they needed it and kept themselves alive for the win.

With 45 points coming from the Hurricanes’ bench, 15 of them from team leader Kedar Edwards, the Hurricanes pick up a 91-86 win over the still-winless Saint John Riptide.
