After a day of high drama in the Basketball Super League, Sunday night in Canada saw two statement wins from teams with post-season success in their sights, beginning in St. John's with the second successive match-up between the Sudbury Five and the Newfoundland Rogues.

The two closest teams in the league in terms of win percentage, they have been fighting to gain position over the other with the playoffs nearing. In what would be their last meeting of the regular season, the Rogues played tougher defence from the start and hit more than half of all their first quarter attempts, building a double-digit lead over the Five by the end of Q1.

Sudbury stepped up from the second quarter but Newfoundland continued to lead them with far greater defence and the edge in the paint on the game. A 25-point lead in the fourth quarter was, in the end, too much for Sudbury to come back from and the Rogues came away with the win 121-110.

Once again Armani Chaney led all on the floor with 35 points, with Shandarious Cowart posting 30, Antonio Davis with 23 points off the bench and William Brown had a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double for the Rogues. For the losing Sudbury Five, Ja'Myrin Jackson had 29 points, AJ Mosby finished with 26 and JD Miller finished with a double-double.

It was a similar story in Quebec, where the Montreal Toundra hosted the Windsor Express, who opened with nine points unanswered in Montreal and there was no let up from them for the remainder of the game.

The Toundra saw good bench production, with 81 points coming from their reserves in the game

Five double-doubles in the game and eleven scoring in double digits, but the Express continued to play high-percentage basketball to the final buzzer, where they finished winners by 122 points to 114.

Philip Flory led the scoring for Montreal with 33 points off the bench, while Shadell Millinghaus was the top scorer with 29 for Windsor, who also saw 22 from Latin Davis as they move up to third place in the league standings as a result of this win. Sudbury Five fall to fifth below the fourth-place Newfoundland Rogues, with time running out to maximise their chances of success in the post-season.
