Three in Three - Recapping a Trio of Super League Match-Ups

Three Super League match-ups this week all unfolded in very different ways saw some big numbers from those on the court.

On Tuesday the Sudbury Five made the short trip to the Gardens for a meeting with the London Lightning. Threes from Billy White and Jachai Taylor were all that separated the teams in the first quarter, but behind a near-perfect second quarter performance from Duane Notice Sudbury were soon looking at a thirteen-point lead.

London returned to the court revigorated in the second half, playing high-percentage basketball to first cut down their arrears, then taking control in the fourth quarter, where Billy White scored the last fifteen of his game-high 37 points, as London completely turned things around to get the home win 120-107.

Duane Notice and AJ Mosby had 27 and 24 points respectively for Sudbury in the loss, while White' team mate Jermaine Haley had 14 points and rebounds, with four more on the Lightning also finishing in double digits.

The next night the Newfoundland Rogues continue their road trip in Ontario beginning with a visit to the Windsor Express, who they met last Saturday and lost by eight. After a close start, Newfoundland found their rhythm shooting over 50% from in the opening quarter, where Armani Chaney scored ten points and they finished with an 8-2 run to lead by seven.

Windsor had good bench production and saw an outstanding game from Paul Harrison, but while he led the team with 38 points, the Express cold only close the gap but not get the lead back from the Rogues. Better production in the paint and dropping thirteen threes on the contest, Newfounland held on to their lead, which reached as high as fifteen, and ended with the Rogues victorious 130-120.

In addition to Harrison's 38, Amir Yusuf had 19 points and nine rebounds off the Express bench, while Shadell Millinghaus finished on 12 and 13 boards. For the Rogues Chaney's 31 points as well as 13 assists, but his total was eclipsed by 35 from Marquis Collins.

Finishing off on Thursday the Rogues made the short trip to Kitchener where the KW Titans awaited them. The visitors came out the starting gate firing from three-point territory, piling in six from the start which saw them lead by eleven points by the end of the first quarter.

The Titans tried to control the pace of the game in the second quarter and in the second half they rampaged. Led by Curtis Hollis and Jaylon Tate KW outscored the Rogues by sixteen in the third quarter and making two thirds of all shot attempts from the field in the fourth they maintained their advantage to the very end, where they won by eight points.

Chaney and Collins both finished with 25 points in the loss for Newfoundland in a game where Hollis was the lead scorer with 27 as well as nine rebounds for the Titans, and ten more players finished in double digits.

These results see KW remaining top of the table ahead of the London Lightning while the Newfoundland Rogues climb above the Windsor Express as the BSL season rolls on.
