Fierce Rivals Face Off on Three-Game Super League Sunday

A three-game Sunday in the Basketball Super League produced very different results, making it a highly entertaining and eventful day of hoops in Canada.

It was the the second meeting in as many nights for the Jamestown Jackals and the Sudbury Five; the Canadians had led their New York visitors from start to finish the night before and Sunday was deja vu. After opening the scoring Sudbury dominated for the entire 48 minutes, despite David Jasson putting up 35 off the Jackals' bench.

Eight Sudbury players finished in double digits, with AJ Mosby, Dunae Notice and Keljin Blevins joint leaders on 22 points each in one of their team's biggest wins of the season, 143-110.

Meanwhile the Montreal Toundra hosted the KW Titans and behind flawless starts for Corey Boyd and Phillip Flory they had the edge early on. They led until the second quarter where KW outscored their hosts 30-13 and went on to lead by seventeen in the second half.

Between them Antoine Mason and Marc-Andre Florin tried to narrow the gap but every time the Toundra got close to the Titans' lead, the visitors hit back from the paint and held their nerve despite late scares to close out the 116-109 win.

Mason and Florin had a huge impact off the Montreal bench, scoring 32 and 17 points respectively. KW saw an outstanding show from Curtis Hollis with 30 points, nine rebounds and six assists while Jaquan Lightfoot finished on a double-double, 19 points and 10 total boards in the win.

The highlight game of the night though was the latest chapter in the eternal rivalry between the Windsor Express and the visiting London Lightning. This fixture always produced sparks and Sunday's instalment was no exception.

London opened with a 7-0 run but Windsor were quick to close the gap and Latin Davis then put the hosts up by one. Four lead changes followed which ended with the Lightning piling in seven points within a minute, but the Express responded with six points of their own to end the first quarter with the scores level.

An uncharacteristically lacking second quarter from London saw Windsor take control of the game, but when play resumed after the second half Billy White and Jeremiah Mordi quickly turned things around with eleven points without reply.

Shadell Millinghaus and Sam Muldrow combined to level the scores ahead of the final quarter, which began with five lead changes but Windsor held on to their narrow lead led by Millinghaus, who had eleven points in the period.

Chris Jones levelled the scoring for London twice down the stretch and Mordi put them in front with 1:23 on the clock. Latin Davis with ice in his veins made a crucial three-point play which put the Express up by one and the Lightning's final attempt to seal the win fell short and this breathless clash came to a close with Windsor winners by a point.

London's Jeremiah Mordi was the leader 30 points while Billy White had 20 to go with eight rebounds. Millinghaus was the stand-out with 22 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for the Express, who also saw a fantastic defensive show from Tyler Groce, who finished with sixteen total rebounds.

This loss sees London toppled from top of the table, the Newfoundland Rogues are now the leaders just ahead of the Sudbury Five. The Lightning and Titans both have 10-6 records, both staying ahead of the Windsor Express with the Montreal Toundra still seeing struggles.
