Super League Sunday and the Best of the Week



Some of the highest-scoring games this Basketball Super League season happened this week and it was not over when Sunday night rolled around.


The two-game slate saw the Windsor Express facing the Sudbury Five, where a three and free-throws from Landon Kirkwood was all that separated the teams in the first quarter, ten second quarter from Ja'Myrin Jackson keeping Sudbury in front while the Express kept it tight, outscoring their hosts in the paint.


AJ Mosby picked up the scoring for Sudbury in the second half, dropping three from beyond the arc, and Jackson sank the dagger in the final quarter. Despite Shadell Millinghaus putting up 32 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in the contest, Sudbury secured the win 115-108.


Jackson meanwhile finished with 28 points, Mosby with 27 and 20 off the bench from Landon Kirkwood in an impressive victory for the Windsor Express. At the same time the Montreal Toundra and Newfoundland Rogues faced off once again in St. John's for another unpredictable match-up.


Seventy six points were scored in the first quarter alone, where Armani Chaney and Omega Harris combined in the first quarter to give Newfoundland the edge. Amari Haynes perfect opener off the Montreal bench and in the second quarter they played higher percentage offence in the second quarter, led by Mambi Diawara again off the bench, giving them a one-point lead at half time.


After five lead changes to begin the second half, Dominick Welch gave the Toundra a healthy lead which they maintain throughout the second half, led by great production from Antoine Mason and Levi Londole. Despite eighteen final quarter points from Chaney, finishing with 40 plus eight assists,

Montreal end their road trip with the win, 138-127. Montreal had 58 points off the bench, with eight players finishing in double digits led by Mason with 26 points.


Chaney's forty-point game and Millinghaus's near triple double marked a high-scoring stretch in the Super League. Chaney began the long weekend with 32 points for the Newfoundland Rogues while Millingahus had 38 on Friday against the Titans.


It was an incredible week for Antoine Mason, who scored 102 points in three games, the best coming at the start of the week where he recorded 44 points. Similarly AJ Mosby had a sensational 37 points, eight rebounds and four steals and four steals for the Sudbury Five against the Titans.


At the end of the week the KW Titans remain top of the league standings with the London Lightning starting to catch up, wins for the Newfoundland Rogues put them third while Windsor's win over Sudbury sees them jump them in the second part of the table above the Montreal Toundra.
