Records Broken, Win Streaks Extended, Fantastic Finishes - The Super League Headlines
Three games in two days in the Basketball Super League was action packed with plenty of stories unfolding all over Canada.
It was a high-scoring affair when the Newfoundland Rogues were visited by the Rhode Island Kraken, the hosts doubled Rhode Island's first quarter score, putting up an incredible 52 points in the opening period.
They followed this with 55% from the field and six from beyond the arc in Q2. The Kraken tightened up in the second half behind great production from Rodney Simon and William Leviton. They finished on 100 points, where as the Rogues finished on 157 - a new league record.
Newfoundland were led by a season best 30 points from Omega Harris, along with 22 points and 20 assists from Armani Chaney, while Anthony Ottley had 16 off the bench. Meanwhile Simon led Rhode Island with 24 points with Leviton and Anthony Peacock both finishing with 21, the latter also grabbing 13 rebounds in the loss.
At the same time the Lebanon Leprechauns also made the trip north to the Aud in Kitchener where the league-leading KW Titans waited them. After a back-and-forth start, greater hustle and field shooting from the Titans saw them go sixteen points in front.
Despite the best efforts of Carter Skaggs, Joe Retic and Ron Washington to turn things around for Lebanon, KW continued to make their presence felt in the paint and on defence and they closed out their eighth win in a row by 105 points to 97.
Jaquan Lightfoot had nineteen points in the first half alone for the Titans, ending the game on 32 points along with 14 rebounds, while Corey Boyd also had 14 total boards off the bench. Retic and Washington had 25 and 21 points respectively for Lebanon, who were led by 26 points and 10 rebounds from Skaggs in the loss.
The next day a highlight match-up was on the cards in Quebec: the Windsor Express headed east to face the Montreal Toundra, the hosts looking to build on their previous win, the visitors looking to get back in the winning column. Determination on both ends saw sparks fly at Centre Pierre-Charbonneau.
The Toundra were in control for the first quarter, with superior three-point shooting and great production from Antoine Mason; in the second quarter the Express showed great hustle and made two-thirds of all shot attempts, closing the gap to a single possession at half time.
Windsor went twelve points unanswered which saw them go in front at the start of the second half, but Montreal's continued three-point success saw them quickly go back in front. A single possession separated the teams for the entire third quarter until Windsor went seven points in front.
Montreal responded from the paint and the lead changed hands eight times down the final stretch, with an final jump shot from Jalen Hayes being the difference maker. Latin Davis led Windsor with 25 points while Shadell Millinghaus had 23 in their team's 122-119 win.
Posting eight threes to his name Dominick Welch led the Toundra with a season-best 30 points along with ten rebounds, Mason finished with 22 and four more players had double-digit performances in the loss.
