Recapping Space Jam Night in Sudbury

The Sudbury Community Arena threw back to 1997 on Saturday 9th as they paid homage to one of the most popular basketball films of all time.

Wearing Tune Squad-style jerseys, the Sudbury Five came into the Space Jam Game on the back of an uneven campaign so far, with equal wins and losses on the season. Their opponents were a strong KW Titans team, second overall in the NBLC, but though they may have been the more favoured team coming in, on the night the visitors came up against some formidable opposition.

After the teams exchanged baskets early on, Sudbury put together a 7-0 run and built a firm lead of the Titans. They then started to run rampant on offence with four consecutive three-pointers and Zena Edosomwan regularly crashing the KW glass.

In response the Titans' three-headed monster - Eric Ferguson, Jermaine Haley and Chad Frazier - led the team in trying to overcome this early set back, but proved unable to contain their opposition and nothing KW were doing while in possession seemed to be working.

Sudbury opened the second half with a 13-2 run and not long after were looking at a thirty-point lead.

A heavy deficit to come with a long way left to go in the game, leaving the Titans feeling dazed.

KW tried to intiate something to get themselves back into the game, with Joel Kindred & Eric Ferguson connecting inside and out. However every player on the Titans seemed to be overwhelmed by the Five in this one.

Chad Frazier led everyone in the final quarter with eleven points in the final quarter, but at that point the win was out of reach for the Titans and it was all about damage limitation. He, Ferguson and Kindred all had twenty-point games, but it was small consolation in face of a heavy loss.

Sudbury's enormous lead was enough to carry them home to a blowout victory. Jaylen Bland led all with 32 points for Sudbury, with Edosomwan adding another double-double to his season tally and and Jeremy Harris had 28 in a spectacular 122-110 home win on Space Jam night.

The highlights:

The Sudbury Five unleashed their secret stuff in front of the home crowds and it made for one of their biggest and most memorable victories of 2022. Their emphatic win over the Titans sees Sudbury regain their winning record, but there is still a lot of time left before the NBLC playoffs and it will take more performances like this to ensure them the best place possible in the post-season. Until then-
