NLD vs KWT - Super League Playoffs Game 2 Report
The points came pouring in at the Aud in second game in the best-of-five series between hosts KW Titans and the visiting Newfoundland Rogues. The first seeded Titans were looking for a repeat of game one, where they achieved a blowout victory over the Rogues, who were seeking to put a win on the board after a heavy opening loss.
Newfoundland opened with seven points, KW responded with then unanswered, then eight more afterward to lead by nine points. After increasing their lead with another run of eight to begin the second quarter, Lewis Djonkam tried to find some momentum in the low post for the Rogues. Dexter Williams answered with seven points in a row for the Titans.
Armani Chaney began eating into the Titans' lead, as did his team mate Robert Hobson from three-point territory, and when the second half began only three points stood between teams. William Brown then put Newfoundland up one, which saw the Titans add eleven unanswered points to their score.
The Rogues began drawing fouls to slow down play and try to shake off KW's grip, but continued shooting success saw the Titans maintain their double-digit lead. Unable to generate any new rhythm or fend off the Titans, Newfoundland were resigned to the loss in game two.
Chaney notched up 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, an otherwise impressive display despite the loss, with 21 coming from Marquise Collins and 18 from Brown. Dexter Williams turned heads with 16 points off the bench, Jaquan Lightfoot had his fourth straight 20-point game, finishing here with 21 points.
Curtis Hollis once again lead the Titans' scoring with a game-high 24 as they are now one win away from the Super League finals with a second win over the Newfoundland Rogues 118-96. Check back here for further coverage of that and all Super League playoff games as the finals start to beckon.
