Friday night in the Basketball Super League saw the first-ever competitive meeting between the Sudbury Five and the visiting Newfoundland Rogues. They made it a night to remember, producing exciting scenes leading to a thrilling climax to one of the best games of the season so far.

The Five opened with nine unanswered points before William Brown finally put the Rogues on the board, but Sudbury's rhythm remained. Continued shot success in the field from Landon Kirkwood and AJ Mosby for the rest of the opening quarter, where they went on to lead the Rogues by seventeen po

Twelve minutes in and Newfoundland already had a mountain to climb, but wasted no time in trying to get themselves back in the game. Armani Chaney and Marquis Collins smoked their hosts from three-point territory, they led an amazing, sudden turnaround. Outscoring Sudbury 45-27 in the second quarter alone, the Rogues went from down by double digits to leading at half time.

Duane Notice returned the lead to Sudbury in the third, who now had to fight to stay afloat as Newfoundland turned up the pressure and kept it a single-possession game for much of the third. Shandarious Cowart's three-point shooting put the Rogues back in front as the game entered its final phase of play.

Q4 began with four lead changes, ending with Chaney putting Rogues up five, only for Sudbury to respond with an 8-2 run which put them back in front. A point stood between teams going into the final stretch, where the lead changed hands four times before Sudbury went three clear in the final minute.

With pressure high on both ends Marquis Collins hit a three for the Rogues, tying the scores, but on the other end AJ Mosby drew a foul and made a crucial free-throw in the final few seconds. It would be the game-winner for Sudbury, who fought hard throughout this rollercoaster game to secure the home win by a single point.

Despite the loss Chaney was once again top scorer, putting up 30 points and eight rebounds for the Rogues, who also saw Marquis Collins and Omega Harris break the twenty-point mark. Sudbury saw six players reach double digits, led by Notice with 29 and Mosby's 26. (They both finished a rebound shy of double-doubles) The final result is what matters most though and it unfolded in the most entertaining way.
