NBLC Newcomers: Best For Week Three
The third week of the 2022 NBL Canada regular season saw some of the league's brightest newcomers continue to dazzle and delight on the floor, while some newcomers have also stepped up and announced themselves to the Canadian crowds with stand-out showings. Here is the very best players throughout a big week of basketball:
1. Zena Edosomwan (Sudbury Five)
The new big man for the Sudbury Five was a double-double machine this week, first dropping 24 points and 17 total rebounds on 60% shooting, the leader in both for his team in their 100-93 win over the KW Titans. He followed that up with 16 and 11 against the London Lightning, in both instances clear evidence of the value he now has in Sudbury along with the big efforts and success he has been having on both ends with the team.
2. Eric Ferguson (KW Titans)
Continuing his high-scoring ways, Eric Ferguson was one of the most productive players on offence league-wide this week, recording double-digit performances in all three KW Titans games. His highlight coming on March 9th, where he scored sixteen and grabbed eighteen total rebounds against the Sudbury Five, a score he repeated the following night where he finished second on KW in their 98-82 win over the Kokomo Bobkats.
3. Kobie Williams (Windsor Express)
The week started out quiet for Windsor's rookie forward, managing just four points and five rebounds against the Kokomo Bobkats, but the next day he announced himself against the London Lightning. Perfect from beyond the arc, Williams put up 22 points - second for the Express behind Billy White - as well as eight boards. Here he showed us what he can really do and, if given more time on the court, hopefully he can do more of the same in the future.
4. Malik Miller (Windsor Express)
On his first start for the Express, Miller made nearly three-quarters of his shot attempts against the Bobkats, finishing second in scoring with eighteen points while also grabbing six total rebounds. His showing here played a big part in the Express getting the win over their American visitors and indicated there is much more to come from the Morgan State graduate as the league progresses.
5. Jachai Taylor (Windsor Express)
He may only have six NBLC games under his belt, but with hugely consistent performances Taylor is showing everyone that his starting spot on the team is well deserved. He posted sixteen points on 70% shooting in Windsor's win over Kokomo, which he followed up with fourteen against the London Lightning, as well as making four steals and four rebounds.
The 2022 NBL Canada season may still be young, but those new to the league have already found their roles on their respective teams and are making big statements with their efforts on court. Keep checking back with this thread for updates on the progress of those new to the NBLC ranks.
