KW Titans: New for 2022

The new NBL Canada season will see a host of new players who will be hitting the Canadian boards for the first time. Here are the fresh faces for the KW Titans in 2022:

Matt Neufeld

6'11 Centre from Victoria, British Columbia

Neufeld had a very productive basketball youth: after winning the provincial championship with Lambrick Park, as well as MVP and defensive player of the final tournament, he represented Canada at the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. He himself recorded a competition-high 13 points against South Korea in the round of sixteen, which was followed by a tournament exit to Croatia before Canada finished in fifth place overall with a consolation win over Italy.

When Neufeld graduated he became a rotation player for the St Louis Billikens and in 2017 transferred to the UC Davis Aggies. He finished his first season third in the Big West conference for field goal percentage and ended his Aggies career with 42 starts in 59 games, averaging 7.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. He turned professional in 2020 and made six starts for the Guelph Nighthawks, averaging 6.4 points that CEBL season.

Eric Ferguson

6'8 Forward from Statesboro, Georgia

After much success in high school, Ferguson was recruited to the Georgia Southern Eagles in 2010. With 12.0 points in 31 games - 26 of which he started - Ferguson ranks fourth among all Eagles freshmen. The following season he was named SoCon player of the year and as a junior he reached the milestone of thousand points for Georgia Southern.

Ending his NCAA career with averages of 12.4 points and 6.1 boards, Ferguson made his professional debut with Hong Kong Eastern, later suiting up for Bahia Basket in Argentina and Mexican team Xalapa before signing with the Titans for 2022.

Shakwon Barrett

6'5 Guard from Toronto

Barrett's basketball journey began with a highly decorated career with Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, before he moved back home to Toronto's Tech Academy. From there, he joined the Tulane Green Wave in the NCAA; after spending much of the first season as a redshirt and losing his starting spot as a sophomore, he left for the Northwest Florida Raiders in 2019.

Starting in all but three games, Barrett averaged 8.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists in his one season for the Raiders. He played his senior year for the Tennessee State Tigers before making the move to professional in 2022.

Osa Wilson

6'6 Forward from Brampton, Ontario

In the 2016-17 KJCCC season, Wilson averaged 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds for the NTA Mavericks, which also saw him score in double digits in eleven of first fourteen games. This saw him recruited to the Southern Jaguars for his senior year of eligibility, where he shot 53% from the field as the team finished with a 17-15 record in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, also reaching the tournament quarter finals.

With their new-look roster the tenth NBLC season could prove to be a very interesting and unpredictable one for the KW Titans. Check back here regularly to see how their new recruits fare in their first basketball season in Canada.
