High-Scoring, High-Drama Super League Sunday Recap
Two basketball games on the same day, each unfolded differently, but between them provided everything fans want to see - thrills scenes, high scores and exciting finishes.
The Aud welcomed back the Newfoundland Rogues, who have already proved to be a thorn in the side of the KW Titans this season, and from the outset their latest visit from the Rogues seemed to be similarly thorny.
The teams were evenly matched, with the Rogues stronger from outside and the Titans inside. A late William Brown free throw for the visitors was all that could separate the teams by half time, but when play resumed Jaylon Tate and Antony Lee made the difference in the third quarter.
After going in front by seven KW's momentum continued into the final period, where they made two thirds of all their shot attempts, and finally defeated the Newfoundland Rogues by a margin of nine points. Curtis Hollis finished with 29 for the Titans, followed by Armani Chaney with 28 for Newfoundland in the loss.
Elsewhere in Ontario the London Lightning welcomed their biggest rivals, the Windsor Express, and Sunday night's game between them started with a clear display of their rivalry as both teams dogged it out for possession and looks from the start.
Shadell Millinghaus came off the Lightning bench to score eleven in the opening quarter, but Windsor's low post play narrowed the gap and after three lead changes their three-point shooting put them ahead by five.
London ended the half with seven points unanswered to lead by two and with eight more points without reply they lead by nine. Windsor closed the gap to one with a 9-0 run and London's close-up play kept them in front until another 9-0 run saw the Express surge into the lead.
As time in Q4 ticked down a four-point play from Chris Jones plus layup from Paul Harrison gave the lead back to Windsor. Tenacious offence from Millinghaus, Jeremiah Mordi and Mike Nuga put London back in front, but the Express kept themselves in it by drawing fouls right to the end.
Another three-point play from Chris Jones with twelve seconds left was the decisive play and brought this breathless grudge match to a close with Windsor winners by two.
Jones, who had fourteen in the last quarter, had a game-high 33 off the bench, while Paul Harrison had 25 and Tyler Groce caught 13 rebounds for the Express in the win. Millinghaus had a game-high 34 for the Lightning who had four more players reach double digits in the loss.
