Sudbury Five Tenure: 2021-2024

On May 10th 2024, Evan Harris played his last game with the Sudbury Five, bringing down the curtain on fourteen years of professional basketball. His third and final season in the 705 finished with him averaging 3.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in 36 games played, in which he as always served as a spark plug for the team he has shown such loyalty to.

Four months earlier, on January 13th, he made his first double-double in Sudbury - 18 points and 11 total rebounds - over the Pontiac Pharaohs. His Sudbury tenure ended with a playoff run which ended at the hands of eventual champions, the London Lightning.

Harris has been a fan favorite and important team member ever since first signing with Sudbury in 2021. Immediately became a key rotation player as part of his new team's game plan. His contribution to the team was most evident on April 14 of the 2021-22 season against the London Lightning, where he scored 17 points in Sudbury's eight-point win.

Averaging 6.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in 15 games, including a playoff appearance, he re-joined the Five for the following season. In 2022-23, Sudbury finished with a 16-10 regular season record and advanced to the playoffs, but missed out on a finals place at the hands of the Windsor Express.

This brings to a close a storied and wide-reaching career where he played high levels of basketball all over the world.

From 2005 to 2009, Harris played in the NCAA D1 with the Harvard Crimson, where he finished in the top ten all-time shot blockers and registered career averages of 7.4 points and 4.9 total boards. Turning pro after graduation, he split his rookie year with Craiova in Romania and German third division team Wolfenbuettel, with whom he averaged 16.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

In 2010 he joined Illiabum in Portugal for 21 games, averaging 11.0 points and 8.2 boards. Returning to Germany, he played two seasons with Cuxhaven BasCats, averaging 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds in thirty six games. He then had brief stints with Quimper in France and Prievidza in Slovakia before moving back to Germany, playing the 2014-15 season with the Gotha Rockets.

In 2017 Harris moved to Norway, singing with the Nirandos Jets in the BLNO, for whom he averaged 18.7 points and 14.1 rebounds in 27 games on the 2017-18 season. Impressive numbers made him hot property in Norway and he was signed by Fyllingen for the following season, where he again managed a double-double season average: 18.5 points and 11.3 boards.

He then played his third straight season in Norway, second with Fyllingen, averaging in double digits once again and reaching the semi finals of the playoffs before the season was curtailed by the COVID-19 Pandemic. It was from here that an old opponent, Logan Stutz, asked him to come be a part of the Sudbury Five community. The rest was history.

Evan Harris retires as a member of the Sudbury Five, for whom he has made worthy contributions to the team and community in the twilight of his pro playing career. While it is sad to see him go, he leaves as a beloved part of the team's history.
