CPL: Five Main Moments of Week 3

The 2022 Canadian Premier League season is only three weeks old, but already there has been so much going on and the third week of action was the most eventful and eye-catching so far.

1. York Get Their First Win of 2022

With two stylish goals York United get three points for the first time this season. Olivier Minatel opened the scoring against his old club, Cavalry, with a spectacular header. This was followed up by Osaze De Rosario in the second half with a strike from far outside the box. Unable to respond, Cavalry were resigned to the loss and last place in the league standings after three matches.

2. Forge Fully in Control On Home Turf

When Forge welcomed FC Edmonton to Hamilton both teams were yet to see a win in 2022. Each had every chance to change that but Forge made the home advantage felt and punished their opponents.

After Terran Campbell opened the scoring with a penalty, just before half time he drew out Edmonton goalkeeper Andreas Vaikla and instead of going for goal handed it off to Tristan Borges who doubled the Forge lead in front of the empty net. Campbell later made it three after breaking through the Edmonton defence in the seventieth minute, giving Forge their first win of 2022 in a big way.

3. Cory Bent with the Goal of the Week

HFX Wanderers' trip to the other side of the country turned out to be for nothing as defending champions Pacific avenged the loss of their early lead with a late penalty which netted them all three points - but neither goal was as spectacular as the one that came from the visitors' Cory Bent.

The HFX forward brought the first half to a close with a thunderous free kick that went straight over the wall and into the back of the net. The result may have been disappointing for the Wanderers, but the goal was a golden one.

4. Valour on the Warpath in Ottawa

The Manitoban team opened the scoring early at TD Stadium and did not stop there, finding the net time and time again and leaving Atletico Ottawa floundering for seventy minutes, by which point they had a 6-1 advantage. It would be pointless describing the action, watch the highlights instead:

5. How Brett Levis Sealed the Big Win

Of the many goals in Ottawa on April 24th, the last one midfielder Brett Levis scored to close out the scoring was the most spectacular. From far outside the box, he fired home a shot that would not be denied, closing out Valour's thrashing of Atletico in style.

Keep checking back for more updates on this CPL season, hopefully with many more highlight moments like these to come.
