Canadian Premier League: This Week's Five Talking Points

Another week in the 2022 Canadian Premier League meant another week of memorable moments produced and headlines made as all kinds of stories develop as the season continues. Here are the five biggest stories in the latest round of CPL action:

1. Pacific's Half Dozen in the CONCACAF League

Jamaican club Waterhouse FC made the trip to Starlight Stadium to face the reigning CPL champions Pacific FC for the first round of CONCACAF League. It turned out not to be a worthwhile trip for the visitors as Pacific showed them no mercy, putting six past them and cruising into the next phase of the competition in style.

2. Valour Led to Victory by Dyer

Moses Dyer bookended a comprehensive victory for Valour at home over Cavalry. First benefitting from good time after chipping the ball over Cavalry keeper Marco Carducci, then orchestrating something special deep in the second half, where he outpaced every Cavalry player, including Carducci, before depositing the ball in the open goal.

3. Woobens Wins it for Forge

The CPL Player of the Month was at it again at the Donut Box: on one of the first attempts on goal against the HFX Wanderers he headed in an early corner, his tenth goal of the season. With no follow up from Forge or the Wanderers it was also the unlikely game-winner, giving Forge three points which sent them to the top of the table.

4. Tabla Gets the Win for Atletico

There was late drama in the capital: following a rain-soaked start to Atletico Ottawa's match-up with FC Edmonton, Ballou Tabla scored twice in five minutes for Ottawa. Tobias Warschewski added to the drama with a late one for Edmonton but the hosts were able to fight through a tense ending to prevail with the win, which leaves them in third place overall.

5. Forbes' Thumper in Winnipeg

Billy Forbes made it two Valour wins by the same final score in the same week. This time hosting York United, Sean Rea's opening goal just after the start of half time was followed up by this thumping effort from the striker, all but ensuring victory for the home team.
