Canadian Premier League: The Week in Five Moments

A hot weekend across Canada saw temperatures rise in the Canadian Premier League, with tensions rising throughout each game on the slate, resulting in a lot of headline moments. Here is the five moments which defined the week:

1. Forge Ahead in Style

Tim Horton's Field played host to the semi-final of the Canadian Championship, where Forge hosted Toronto FC, and it didn't take long for the hosts to turn up the heat. A half-court screamer by Beni Diata followed by a flick-in from Kwasi Poku in just the first fifteen minutes. Those two goals were enough for Forge to see off Toronto FC and will now face Vancouver Whitecaps in final.

2. The Second Half of Vancouver vs Ottawa

League leaders Atletico Ottawa made the cross-country trip to British Columbia, where the tension ramped up until one team finally exploded on offence.

After a heated first-half, Ballou Tabla and Ruben Ferreria both recovered rebounded balls and fired the ball into the back of the net. Ottawa's lead then reached three when Sam Salter sent Vancouver defenders the wrong way and sent the ball flying from the edge of the box and into the back of the net.

3. Goal of the Week

After a cagey first half between Cavalry and York United at Spruce Meadows, York's Mo Babouli opened the scores in style - converting a free kick from thirty yards out with precision aim.

4. A Momentous First Goal

A moment to remember for York United and forward Shola Jimoh: the sixteen-year-old, on his fourth appearance for the team, scored his first professional goal after breaking through the Cavalry defence and putting the ball away, at the same time earning York the win and putting them in second place in the league.

5. Poku Does It Again

Days after he helped lift Forge over Toronto, he did the same again against Pacific FC. After Ayman Sellouf opened the scoring with a first half penalty for Pacific, Kwasi Poku opened the second half with an equalizer then, after a long time spent knocking on the visitor's door, finally hammered home the winning goal in the box.
