Canada Spotlight: A Night of Heroics for Bridget Carleton
She may be far from her native Canada, but power forward Bridget Carleton's recent performances have sent shockwaves throughout the basketball world.
The Ontarian may have been a latecomer to Hungarian outfit Uni Gyor (after her fifth straight WNBA season with the Minnesota Lynx) but she hit the ground running and has been a powerhouse on offence for the struggling side. So far Carleton has scored in double digits in all but one game she has played in and currently ranks second on her team in the Euroleague for scoring behind Diamond Miller.
This week came her finest forty minutes yet. Playing against Polkowice at home, Carleton went off for her club and showed just how effective she is on offence in some style. She put in 38 minutes on the court and posted 41 points, which included eight three-point shots and a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line.
This was the best score in a single Euroleague Women game since 1997 and the third-best from an individual in competition history.
Carleton's superb performance lifted Gyor to a 90-81 victory, snapping a six-game losing streak in Europe for the team who can now look to this game for inspiration, after seeing what their Canadian star can do for them. She made January 17th a night she and everyone who witnessed would never forget.
