Canada in Super Start to the 3x3 World Cup

The 2022 3x3 World Cup has tipped off in Antwerp, Belgium, and has already been packed with all kinds of excitement and action with many teams seeing early success, among them Canada.

Familiar 3x3 faces Paige Crozon, Kacie Bosch, Katherine and Michelle Plouffe all donned the Canadian jersey, the sole representation for the country in the competition, the first time Canada had ever fielded a team for the women's tournament in the World Cup. They had a strong roster with plenty of experience in the sport ready to make the country's debut one to remember.

Opening against Chile, Canada caught fire from beyond the arc early on, but their opponents did well to slow the game down. That was until the Plouffes made their height advantage count and the Canadian lead grew in the low post.

Kacie Bosch's speed and agility saw her pick up the points which got them to within one of the winning score. Chile tried to hold it off but two minutes from time Katherine Plouffe drew a foul and hit one from the stripe to get Canada's world cup off to a winning start.

After their opening 21-10 win, the second game began with Bosch and Paige Crozon getting the opening points in the paint in the face of early pressure from Israel. It didn't take long for Canada to find their scoring rhythm - and when they did they went on the rampage.

The team had eleven points without reply, led by Crozon who caught fire from beyond the arc with three two-pointers, the last of which brought Canada to the brink of a second victory. Floundering Israel left Crozon wide open and Michelle tossed her the ball for a fourth outside shot which sealed a dominant win for Canada, defeating Israel by seventeen.

Undefeated on their first day of play, Canada are equal first at the top of Pool D. When the competition resumes for them they will face their toughest test of the pool stage when they take on Spain and the Netherlands, but their results here will surely put them in good stead to make it the the knockout stage.
