All-NBLC9 First Team Greatest Hits
There's only room at the very top for the very best, and the All-NBL Canada First Team is no exception to that. Only the players who have been at the very top of their game for the 2019-20 season can be a part of it, and performers such of those can be seen below in the final cut, as always with a look at them in action that went to their receiving this honour.
Forward, Halifax Hurricanes
24 GP, 25.7 PPG, 5.6 RPG
Absent from the NBLC last year, it did not take long for Mason to re-find his groove in Halifax. He played more than anyone else this season and finished as the league's top scorer. His 2019-20 included two forty-point performances, among the 617 points he scored in total.
His most memorable game, though, would be against the St. John's Edge on January 27th, where he made the game-winning four point play in the last seconds, bringing his total to 37 to go with 15 rebounds and awarding victory to the Hurricanes, 101-97.
Forward, Moncton Magic
19 GP, 18.9 PPG, 6.7 RPG
Of course, the season’s MVP put in one performance above all others - the best scoring show not just from White himself but from anyone in all of the NBLC. Netting an other-worldly 52 points against this was one for the history books and will remain one of the most memorable games in both franchise history and White’s career.
Guard, Sudbury Five
19 GP, 22.4 PPG, 7.1 APG
Though he could not retain his MVP award from last season, Rayson was once again a guiding light for the Sudbury Five, continuing to light up the stat sheet for both the team and the league in 2019 and 2020.
His most spectacular contribution was on March 7th, finishing off against the London Lightning with 22 fourth-quarter points, rounding off his final total an exceptional 49 in Sudbury's twelve-point victory over the Central Division leaders.
Guard, Moncton Magic
23 GP, 16.0 PPG, 7.1 RPG
The NBLC veteran had his best season to date in Moncton, where he lead the league in three-point shooting and earned the Most Improved Player honour - his new form earning him this individual award and place on the league's first team.
On a team of offensive powerhouses, Mordi outdid them all on February 10th, where the Magic won over the Windsor Express by five points. On an individual level, Mordi put up a team-high 33 points, which included 58% field shooting and four three-pointers, and also lead in rebounds with eight.
Guard, London Lightning
20 GP, 21.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG
When the Lightning took on the KW Titans on January 4th, their neighbours proved hard to shave off until the final quarter, where they were finally able to sink the dagger. With 11 points in that pivotal final phase of play, Moon helped give London that push they needed to break free of the Titans and secure the win.
His was a great all-around performance where came so close to a triple double, with 39 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists in the 113-97 victory. This performance was emblematic of his outstanding season, where he was the leading offence player for the Lightning and one of the best shooters in all of the NBLC.
