NBLC9 Greatest Hits: JR Holder
It was been a remarkable season for NBL Canada newcomer JR Holder. In 21 games for the Sudbury Five he averaged 19.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest, as well as finishing eighth overall in the league for scoring and as the fourth-best three-point shooter. His outstanding numbers have earned him the accolade of NBLC Sixth Man of the Year.
He put in plenty of top performances in the 2019-20 season, here are just a few of his best:
January 2nd at KW Titans
It was only his third game for Sudbury, but Holder really laid the foundation for his high-flying season against the Titans.
Holder came off the bench to outscore everyone in the game - seeing just 27 minutes of playing time, he scored 30 points, which included six three pointers and 10 for 16 from the field. It would be the first of three times in the season he scored thirty-plus points and his efforts helped Sudbury come away with the win, 118-91.
February 17th at Windsor Express
Sudbury and the Windsor Express had tangled for 46 minutes and it was all going to come down to the last minute, with Holder playing the hero for his team.
In the last 1:30, Windsor, who trailed by 13, went up by five. Holder responded by completing a four point play to get the gap down to one and went on to draw a foul, scoring the last point of the game from the line. This brought his total to 23 and he saved the game for the Sudbury Five, who won 116-114.
March 11th at London Lightning
In their last game of the season, Sudbury were on the back foot against the Lightning for the three quarters. They did not give up, though, and Holder was leading the charge to try and turn the game around.
He finished with a season-high 37 points with his second-best scoring percentage of the season, which included seven three pointers, the second time he achieved in the season. Unfortunately it was not enough to save the game, 122-113, but with the season brought to a premature end, Holder was able to see it out in style.
