Antwon Lillard Scoops Up First 2019/20 NBL Canada Award

The NBL Canada has begun handing out the end-of-season prizes for the 2019-20 season, the first of which is the award for Rookie of the Year, which goes to Antwon Lillard of the Island Storm.

Coming to the NBLC straight out of Bowling Green State and seemingly impressed the Island Storm coaching staff early on, as he was immediately promoted to starting shooting guard.

He suffered no first night jitters, scoring ten points in the Storm's season opener against the defending champions, the Moncton Magic. He scored 23 in his next game and followed with what would be a career-high 26 in a 117-106 win over the St. John's Edge.

In all of the 2019-20 season, Lillard only did not register double digit points on three occasions, reaching twenty points five times. It was on the defensive end where he was most impressive, though. As well as recording five double-doubles on the season, he led the Storm in defensive rebounding and finished in the top five rebounders in all of the league.

This season's Island Storm team was full of new talent but Lillard was a standout league-wide and a deserving recipient of the Rookie of the Year prize.
