Sometimes heroes come from unexpected places, and that is true for the Island Storm franchise and their unexpected star, Alex Campbell.

After graduating from Brampton Centennial Secondary School, Campbell played two seasons with the Niagara Knights in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association. He then transferred to the Windsor Lancers of USports in 2013, where he registered totals of 12.5 points per game on 50.9% field shooting in the 2014-15 season.

In 2016, Campbell signed first professional contract with Windsor Express, appearing in eight games before joining the Saint John Riptide, where he played nine games, four of which he started. He averaged just 4.1 points per game in his rookie year.

He then played the following season for Juventud in the Spanish second division, averaging 6.9 points in 41 games. The season over, he represented Canada in the 2018 William Jones Cup, regularly leading the team in assists en route to their second successive victory in the competition.

He then joined the Island Storm, at first as a role player, but found his part grow after the departure of Franklin Session from the team. Promoted to starter, a role he served in 27 out of 37 times, he finished the season with 13.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists - the latter two seeing him finish in the top twenty in the league.

In the off-season he would see success with the CEBL side Saskatchewan Rattlers, for whom he appeared in 21 games, averaged 15.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists, a big part in their capturing the inaugural CEBL championship. He returned to the Storm ahead of the 2019-20 season, he seemed to have more to do in Charlottetown after his breakthrough season.

The Storm's season was shortened to twenty games, but in those he led the team with 20.0 points per game as well as being second in both rebounding and assists, with respective season-end averages of 6.8 boards and 4.3 dishes.

After some early struggles in his career, Campbell seemed to find himself a home in PEI, becoming one of the top performers for the Storm almost immediately after joining the team. His efforts have been invaluable to the team, who hope they will continue to see similar results from him in the future.
