Know Your Team: Jarryn Skeete

Sudbury Five

6’3

Guard

From Brampton, Ontario

Having played his entire professional career in the NBL Canada, every opponent who faces Jarryn Skeete knows he is not one to be taken lightly, having seen first-hand his abilities grow year-on-year.

An accredited high school point guard, Skeete was named 1A All-State Most Valuable Player in his senior year for Wasatch Academy in Utah. From there, he went on to play four years for the NCAA Division 1 side the Buffalo Bulls in upstate New York.

With the Bulls, Skeete was named to the Mid-American Conference and All-Freshman team, and twice made it to the first round of the NCAA championship. He finished his career in Buffalo averaging 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

Skeete began his professional career with the newly-formed Cape Breton Highlanders in 2016. He played in 22 games in his debut season, achieving averages of 7.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists. The following season he joined another NBL Canada expansion team, the St. John's Edge.

He saw far more playing time in St. John's, and put up his best performance against the Niagara River Lions on March 22nd, scoring 20 points on more than half his field goal attempts and 60% from three-point territory. He re-joined St. John's for the following season, playing in 49 games as part of the team's run to the NBLC Finals, where they would fall short to the Moncton Magic.

After two years in St. John's, Skeete signed with the Sudbury Five shortly after the start of the 2019-20 season. It proved to be a lucrative move, after only thirteen games he saw some of the best numbers of his career: 9.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. With four double-digit bench performances at the early part of the season, he was named Canadian Player of the Week on February 2nd.

If these trends continue they could see Skeete have the best season of his career and his skills continue to serve him well in Sudbury and beyond.
