HFXvsKIT - February 8th Game Report

The two teams on show in Sunday's only NBL Canada game had struggled early on in the season, but were not giving up with the post-season looming.

The Halifax Hurricanes had moved up from last place in the Atlantic Division as they travelled to the Aud in Kitchener to take on the KW Titans, who were looking to do the same and build on their 114-108 win over the St. John's Edge the night before.

Good looks early on each from Jonathan Harris, Damon Lynn and Joel Friesen buoyed the Titans early on. Halifax responded from the field in the second quarter, the biggest response coming from Mamadou Gueye, who had ten points in the quarter. Halifax led by five in the period, after KW closed the gap a three pointer from Lynn gave them a two-point lead at the half.

Lynn’s form continued in the third, where he scored 13 points on a perfect shooting show, the Titans began putting the lead further and further out of reach. Olu Famutimi and Nigel Tygther picked up the Titans’ scoring streak in the fourth quarter, and with the Hurricanes unable to respond they were resigned to the loss.

Gueye and Jordan Washington, both coming off the bench, were the top scorers for Halifax with 22 and 18 points respectively, while CJ Washington finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds. For the Titans, Tyghter and Ed Horton also had double-doubels while Lynn finished as the game’s top scorer with 28 points in KW’s 117-102 defeat of the Hurricanes.
