NBLC Recap: February 4th & 5th

The Halifax Hurricanes saw a busy couple of days as they hosted two teams in as many days at the Scotiabank Centre as they look to improve their standings in the NBL Canada - but who would have though that both games would begin and end the same way?

KW Titans vs Hurricanes

Halifax ended the first half with ten unanswered points and began the second half by going up by ten points. Jordan Washington instigated the fight back from the hosts, and when the game resumed the rest of the team picked up the scoring slack which saw them go fourteen points in front in the fourth en route to the 114-107 turnaround win.

Akeem Ellis had 30 points and Damon Lynn had 24 for the Titans, while Nigel Tygther had 11 to go with 12 rebounds, one of three KW players to finish with a double double in the loss. Washington also had a double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, while Antoine Mason led all with 33 points as Halifax move off the foot of the Atlantic Division after their win over the Titans.

Sudbury Five vs Hurricanes

Braylon Rayson and Brady Skeens combined on offence to give Sudbury a double-digit lead in the first quarter, which then became their highest in the game, sixteen, in the second. At that point, Halifax began the fight back, closing the gap before going one point in front just before half time. A three-pointer from JR Holder kept the lead with the visitors when they went to the locker rooms.

Sudbury fought to hold on to their lead at the start of the second half before the Hurricanes put themselves in front part way through the third, which saw them go up by nine. In the fourth, Sudbury completely fell asleep on offence, which allowed Halifax to outscore them in quarter 28 points to 12.

Rayson had 41 points and Jaylen Bland recorded 22 and 11 rebounds for Sudbury in the loss. Meanwhile, Halifax saw 28 points from Antoine Mason, 27 and 19 boards from Cliff Clinkscales and more double-doubles from Joel Kindred and CJ Washington in their second successive come-from-behind victory in as many nights.
