NBLC Recap: March 1st
Another slate of NBL Canada games which played out completely differently from one another was on show with sunday's two inter-divisional games.
KW Titans vs Island Storm
The Titans had the slight edge on offence in the first half, Akeem Ellis and Damon Lynn leading the scoring which saw them lead the Storm at half time and by fourteen points early in the second half.
The Storm responded with fifteen unanswered points, which saw them go in front, and another run of ten put them up by eight going into the decisive final quarter. The game was far from over, though.
Ten successive points from Olu Famutimi gave the Titans back the lead, it changed hands between the teams throughout the final minute of play, at the end of which a final jumper from Famutmi put KW up by two and a last-chance three from Alex Campbell fell short, sealing the final result in this close encounter.
Robbie Robinson had 29 points for the Storm, while Johnathan Loyd had 17 to go with 10 rebounds in what was their sixth straight loss. The victorious Titans saw four of their starting five finish with more than twenty points, the leader being Ellis who had 27 points in their 112-110 road win in Newfoundland.
Sudbury Five vs Moncton Magic
Sudbury put the first points on the board, but when Moncton got going, they did not look back. They led the Five by double digits at the end of the first quarter and by nineteen points at half time, with Corey Allmond scoring the same number of points in the first half alone.
Unable to respond with urgency in the second half, Sudbury were resigned to the loss against the rampant Magic, who led by 36 points in the fourth quarter and by 132-101 at the final buzzer.
Five Sudbury players finished in double digits, with Jaylen Bland leading with 29 points, while Jeremiah Mordi and Denzell Taylor had double-doubles, Wayne McCullough finished with 23 and Allmond 29 in the seventh straight win for Moncton.
