MONvsHFX - February 25th Game Recap

The same fixture of a few days prior was a one-sided victory for the Moncton Magic, but on their visit to the Scotiabank Centre they and the Halifax Hurricanes found themselves in a much more heated and unpredictable affair.

The teams were tied at the end of the first quarter and into the second there was still little to choose between the sides. In the last minute of play in the half two successive threes from Corey Allmond and Marcus Lewis put the Magic up by three at the end of the first half.

The game followed a similar pattern when play resumed, but Moncton's lead soon came under threat. Antoine Mason made an and-one layup in the final moments of the third period, putting the Hurricanes up by one point going into the final phase of regulation.

When the fourth period started it looked uncertain how it was going to end, until it got to the business end of proceedings. Two separate runs of eight points from Moncton proved to be the game-winning moment for the visitors. Jeremiah Mordi and Wayne McCullough later put the game to bed, making the final score 112-100 to the Magic.

Antoine Mason had a game-high 21 points for Halifax while Mamadou Gueye impressed with 20 points off the Hurricanes’ bench in the loss. Seven Moncton players finished in double-digits, led by McCullough who had 19 points and 10 rebounds, as they extend their win streak to five after their visit to Halifax.
