ISLvsSJE - February 22nd Game Recap
The two teams in the middle of the Atlantic Division clashed in the only NBL Canada match-up on Saturday night. Hosts St. John's Edge had moved up to second after early struggles, while the visiting Island Storm were looking to bring an end to their two-game losing streak on their visit to Newfoundland.
The Storm’s ever-dependable duo of Robbie Robinson and Alex Campbell got them off to a great start, leading by 15 points against the Edge who struggled earl on. The home team found their form in the second quarter, making over 60% of all shot attempts from open play, and finished the first half up by one point.
The teams struggled to break free from one another at the start of the third quarter, but Johanthan Loyd of the Storm was not about to let their lead go easily, putting the team up by ten points. The Storm stayed in front until midway through the fourth quarter, when Coron Williams hit two successive three-pointers and followed with a layup to give the Edge back the lead.
The Storm did all they could to keep the game alive for them, but Montay Brandon and Ryan Richardson put the game to bed from the free-throw line, ensuring the come-from-behind victory for St. John’s by 101 points to 95.
Robinson led all on the floor with 23 points for the Storm, also grabbing 10 rebounds, while Nathaniel Wright 20 off the bench in the loss. Brandon also had his 17 points and 15 rebounds off the bench, one of five St. John’s players to finish in double-digits in their win.
