NBLC Recap: February 20th & 21st

In two games the NBL Canada saw as many games that were as different from one another as it's possible to be.

St. John's Edge vs KW Titans

Behind the sharp shooting of Ed Horton, the Titans had an extraordinary start to the game, taking an early ten point lead, which then became a twenty-point lead, both in the first period of play. After which, the Edge tried in vain to catch up to their hosts, but lacked the urgency and to overcome such a heavy deficit.

Fifteen points for Ryan Richardson would be the one highlight for the Edge in a poor performance. Meanwhile, Horton was the game’s standout with 19 points for the Titans in their big victory, finishing 101-86 ahead at the final buzzer.

London Lightning vs Windsor Express

AJ Gaines had nearly half of London’s first quarter points, playing a big part in their twelve-point lead over Windsor at the end of the period. When play resumed, Sam Muldrow led the scoring charge for the Express as they closed the gap to four at the first half’s end.

Windsor went in front shortly after the start of the second half, after which there were ten lead changes, the last of which saw Windsor head into the final quarter up by two points. Xavier Moon and Marcus Capers kept the hosts' hold on the game under threat throughout the fourth, until Windsor hammered home their advantage with an eight-point lead down the stretch.

Moon hit two successive threes to close the gap to one in the final shot clock, but missing one last attempt after Sam Muldrow made it a four-point game spelt the end of the game in Windsor. Muldrow led with 25 points for Windsor while Chris Jones managed 20 off the bench and Kemy Osse finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

With a game-high 35 points, Xavier Moon was the stand-out for London, while Gaines totalled 27 points and 10 rebounds in the 107-103 loss for the Lightning. This sees their losing streak extend to four and if it extends any more, their hold at the top of the Central Division could be under threat for the first time this season.
