HFXvsMON - February 14th Game Recap
Two long-standing rivals of the Atlantic Division met at the Avenir Centre in Moncton on Friday night. The Moncton Magic came into this game as division leaders, while the Halifax Hurricanes were at the bottom and looking to pick up the big away win on their visit to New Brunswick.
Moncton opened the scoring and took a big lead after an unbroken eight-point run. Joel Kindred responded with seven unanswered on his own, and with contributions from Marvell Waithe the Hurricanes led by four at the end of the first quarter. Halifax continued to in the second quarter, where they lead by as many as fifteen points and finishing the first half by ten.
In the third quarter, however, two successive runs of nine and eight points saw the Magic first go into the lead, then build on it. Kindred continued his high-scoring ways, trying to recapture the advantage for Halifax, but he was outmatched by almost everyone on the floor for Moncton in the third. The home side won the period 36-19 and went into the fourth leading 73 to 66.
A three from Jason Calliste put the Magic up by ten points early in the fourth, Desmond Lee followed up to keep the Moncton's double-digit advantage. Halifax's attempts did not come as regularly as Moncton's, which saw them finish as victors by ten points.
Kindred was the stand-out for Halifax with 25 points and 10 rebounds to his name. Moncton had seven players finish in double digits, five of them the starters, with Billy White the leader with 16 in the 96-86 victory.
