NBLC Recap: February 9th

Sunday night saw a slate of two cross-divisional games in the NBL Canada, both of them seeing one team dominant over the other.

Windsor Express vs Island Storm

Alex Campbell almost single-handedly blew out the Express in the first quarter, at the end of which the Storm led by 19 points. Johnathan Lloyd was the next to catch fire on offence for the home team while Windsor struggled to keep up.

After the Express tried to instigate a comeback in the third, the Storm sank the dagger in the fourth quarter, which they won 41 points to 22. Campbell led all on the floor with 36 points, Robbie Robinson had 26 while Lloyd had 21 as well as 14 assists and Nathaniel Wright scored 19 off the bench in a highly dominant victory. The final score was 136-97 to the Storm.

Halifax Hurricanes vs London Lightning

The long-standing rivals could not be separated at the start of the game, until London went eight points clear midway through the first quarter. Halifax responded with a trio of three-pointers to end the period, bringing the gap down to one. The lead then changed hands before the Hurricanes built a six point gap, cut down to one at the half.

The third quarter followed a similar pattern - Halifax going in front before London making it a one-possession game once again. The final quarter, however, broke the pattern: Mo Bolden and AJ Gaines took advantage of a sudden drop in stamina from their opponents, completely turning the game around and giving them the home victory by 112 points to 97.

With 37 points, Joel Kindred was the standout for Halifax in the loss, while Mo Bolden was the lead scorer for the Lightning with 27, while AJ Gaines and Randy Phillips both recorded twenty-point double-doubles, Phillips' coming off the bench.
