NBLC Recap: February 6th & 7th
Three games in two days - all taking place in Ontario but cross-divisional - saw plenty of action from the five teams on show.
KW Titans vs London Lightning
A point was all that separated the teams after the first quarter, in the second, however, the Lightning took control, making over 60% of all open-play attempts in the period. Justin Moss was the guiding light for the Titans, and his 14 points in the third quarter - part of his team-high 28 as well as 11 rebounds - closed the gap from 19 points to three.
Xavier Moon and AJ Gaines led a last-quarter push from London, and their restless offence in the fourth secured the win by 113 points to KW's 99. Gaines and Moon finished with a respective 31 and 28 points for the Lightning in the win.
Windsor Express vs Sudbury Five
Sudbury had an explosive start to the game, outscoring Windsor from all places on the floor, they led by 13 points at the end of the first quarter and kept that lead after twenty minutes of regulation.
In the third, tireless offence from Windsor's starting five saw them erase the deficit, despite the efforts of JR Holder to help keep Sudbury's advantage. In the last quarter Alex Johnson had the last ten of his team-high 25 points to secure the come-from-behind win for Windsor, by a final margin of 125-119.
Ryan Anderson had six threes as part of his 22 points and was a rebound short of a double-double in this one. Jaylen Bland and Marlon Johnson both managed double-doubles for the defeated Sudbury, while 33 points for Holder was small comfort for the losing side.
Halifax Hurricanes vs Sudbury Five
Halifax got the scoring underway in the game, but Sudbury went in front after a ten-point unanswered run, after which Marvell Waithe helped the Hurricanes close the gap to one late in the first. Marlon Johnson pushed the gap out further, and creating the better chances the Five went on to lead by 13 points in the second.
Antoine Mason gave his all to try and take the lead back for the Hurricanes, but Sudbury were unfazed by any challenge from their opponents and stayed the course to secure victory by an eventual margin of 113-107.
Mason finished with 27 points in the contest, while Waithe had 24 off the bench in the loss. All five of Sudbury's starters finished in double digits, with Brady Skeens the standout with 23 points and 18 rebounds as Sudbury snap their losing skid on their home court.
