LON vs KIT - January 30th Game Recap
Who would have thought this central division clash between the home KW Titans, the team with the division's worst record so far, and the visiting London Lightning, with the best division record to this point, would turn out to be one of the most exciting games of the 2019-20 season.
The Titans opened proceedings with six unanswered points, and taking advantage of poor offence from the Lightning, led by twenty points towards the end of the opening quarter. When the game resumed, Xavier Moon and Terry Thomas in his Lightning debut woke the team up and narrowed the gap to ten at half time.
Scoring went back and forth between the sides in the third, but Damon Lynn led the Titans in holding on to their In the fourth, Moon had ten in a row, cutting down the gap early on, and then midway through gave the Lightning their first lead of the game. Moon was joined by AJ Gaines in keeping the advantage over the Titans, who were now the ones fighting back.
The game hung in the balance down to the final shot clock of regulation, where London led by six, but the two Akeems, Scott and Ellis, put up the points KW needed to even the scoreline and keep their hopes alive with overtime.
After a slow start to the extra period, the Lightning looked in control after going six points in front on two occasions. In the last minute, the Titans down by three, Akeem Scott dropped a three and Akeem Ellis put up another with the final shot of the game, it dropped, sealing a dramatic victory for the hosts.
Xavier Moon was the game’s top scorer with 37, while Thomas had 19 off the bench in his first game for London. Akeem Scott led the Titans with 27 points, one of three KW players to finish over the twenty-point mark: Damon Lynn had 26 and Akeem Ellis finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds in the teams 113-110 defeat of the London Lightning.
The Lightning will have a chance at revenge when the teams meet again in London on saturday, while the Titans will be looking to make it a two-for on the road.
