NBLC Recap: January 23rd

Despite the varying things at stake for all involved in the two NBL Canada thursday night match ups - one saw the league's top two teams facing off - both games ended up in the exact same way.

London Lightning vs Moncton Magic

Moncton won the first quarter by a single point, while London did the same in the second quarter, evening out proceedings at half time. Even with Wayne McCullough catching fire for the Magic in Q2, where he scored 16 points, there was no separating the teams early on.

London had the better start to the second half, quickly taking a seven-point lead, but Moncton's shooters slowly got them back into the game and though London fought to take the lead back in the fourth, the Magic were led by Marcus Lewis on offence to hold on to their advantage and see out victory 105 points to 97.

Seven Lightning players finished in double digits, led by AJ Gaines with 18 off the bench, meanwhile Jeremiah Mordi had 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Magic, with his team mate Billy White picking up 24 points and McCullough leading all on the floor with 27.

Windsor Express vs KW Titans

The Titans opened with six unanswered points, but the Express went looking early and often and had their first lead mid-way through the first quarter. After KW closed the gap with seconds to go in the period, a Jordan Bowling three saw Windsor win the opening phase of play.

The sides were separated by no more than five points in the second quarter, but the Express were able to hold on to the lead despite the Titans making up ground from long range. Damon Lynn evened out proceedings again midway through the third, but Chris Jones's short range scoring kept

Jones and Ryan Anderson helped build on Windsor's lead more and more in the fourth quarter, giving them their biggest lead of fourteen points. The Titans tried to turn it all around in the time left, but they could not make it all up. Despite a 15 point-and-10 rebounds performance from Justin Moss, they lost out to Windsor 105-97.

All of Windsor's starters finished in double digits; Ryan Anderson led all with 20 points, while Shaquille Keith notched a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds in their third straight win.
