NBLC Recap: January 19th
Sunday's slate of NBL Canada games saw two very different games, one which went back and forth and the other a dominant showing from a team of high scorers.
Island Storm vs Sudbury Five
Jaylen Bland scored the game's first points and went on to score fifteen more in the opening period, which Sudbury led all the way, and at the end of a much quieter second quarter they still had the advantage by five.
They continued to build on their lead when the second half began, Jaylen Bland and Marlon Johnson scoring 28 points between them in the third. Meanwhile the Storm struggled: Johnathan Lloyd scored 16 points, but he was one of five players to add to the scoreline in the period.
The Storm faced a twenty three-point gap in the fourth, but even with Lloyd's form continuing, there was nothing they could do to save the game. Lloyd finished as the game's top scorer with 41 points, while Bland led Sudbury with 38 of his own and three of his teammates finished with twenty-plus points in their 139-125 defeat of the Storm.
Moncton Magic vs Halifax Hurricanes
A Nick Evans three would be what separated the teams at the end of a tight first quarter. When the game resumed, though, Moncton fell apart and Halifax took full advantage. Led by ten points from Tremayne Johnson, they finished the first half leading by nine.
Moncton re-found their form in the third, led by Marcus Lewis and Corey Allmond they reclaimed the lead and held on throughout a bitterly fought final period to win 95 to 88. Joel Kindred led Halifax with 19 points, while Marcus Lewis was the top scorer for the Magic with 17 and double-doubles were achieved by Jeremiah Mordi (15 points and 14 rebounds) and Denzell Taylor (11 points and 10 rebounds) in the win.
