Island Storm vs KW Titans - January 14th Game Recap
The two teams taking part in Tuesday's only NBL Canada match up could not have been more different - the Island Storm had been riding high in the Atlantic Division while the KW Titans were floundering at the bottom of the Central. Would that have any bearing on the results when they met at the Aud in Kitchener?
The Titans came out firing at the start of the game, led by a near-perfect first quarter from Akeem Scott, they had a nine-point lead early on, narrowed to one by the Storm at the end of ten minutes of regulation. The hosts would not let what would be a small set back get to them, though.
When the game resumed Jared Nickens and Nigel Tyghter led the charge off the bench, taking the Titans to a fifteen-point lead at half time. Nickens’ form continued into the second half and Akeem Ellis contributed from all spots on the floor. The Titans then found themselves with a game-high 35 point lead.
Alex Campbell tried to instigate a comeback for the Storm in the third quarter, and in the final period Nathaniel Wright and Darnell Landon tried to finish off the comeback. Despite leading KW 36-18 in the fourth, it would not be enough to salvage the win from the Titans.
Campbell finished as the Storm’s top scorer with 23 points in 34 minutes, while with 20 to his name, Wright was the visitor’s highest-scoring starter. Four of the Titans’ starting five finished in double digits - Ellis and Jonathan Harris both recording double-doubles - while Nickens was the top scorer with 23 off the bench in the 116-104 victory.
