NBLC Recap: January 10th


Friday night saw two NBL Canada games which both saw dominant and high-scoring shows from some of the top players of this early part of the season.

Sudbury Five vs Island Storm

Through a combination of Nathaniel Wright, Alex Campbell and eight three pointers in the first quarter, the Storm led an otherwise strong Sudbury Five by ten points after the first period.

Jaylen Bland and Dexter Williams led Sudbury’s offence as they tried to get but with the Storm still firing on all cylinders from the field, there was no turn around in proceedings and the home side were victorious, 131-122.

Bland had a team-high 24 points for Sudbury, while Marlon Johnson finished with 18 points and rebounds, one of two players on the team to record a double-double, along with 13 points and 15 board from Brady Skeens. Four Storm players had twenty-point performances, led by Wright with 27 and Robbie Robinson finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

 

KW Titans vs Windsor Express

The Titans led the Express for the first quarter, their superior field play and tougher defence leading them to an early eleven-point advantage. Twelve points from Chris Jones in the second quarter saw the game turn around and Windsor lead by two at the half.

In the third quarter the Express added to their lead as the Titans form deteriorated. Windsor’s lead reached as high as 22 points early in the four, and with no response from KW, they won the game 99-87.

Jonathan Harris led all on the floor with 23 points for the Titans, who also saw 16 points and 14 rebounds from Akeem Ellis in the loss. Meanwhile, Shaquille Keith had a team-high 20 points for Windsor, who also saw great showings from Kemy Osse and Derrick Nix off the bench with 18 and 17 points respectively.
