London Lightning vs Sudbury Five - December 30th Game Recap

The London Lightning were looking to bounce back after a close loss to Windsor days before, while the Sudbury Five were looking for their first win of the season and to have it on their home court on Monday night.

The game was tight from the outset, but Sudbury had the edge from the field which saw them take a double-digit lead at the start of Q2. Mareik Isom and Garrett Williamson kept pushing for the Lightning, eventually giving the team the lead back just before half time.

The teams jostled for the lead when the game resumed, with little to choose between them until a 12-0 run from Sudbury late in the third which saw them go back in front. London started the fourth on the back foot, but quickly went back in front and the same pattern emerged - the scoreline remained tight and even with neither team giving an inch.

London's three-point shooters kept the pressure on Sudbury, and in the last minute of the game made crucial baskets while the Five's attempts kept falling short. The Lightning emerged victorious in this hard-fought battle with their Ontarian neighbours, 102-98.

JR Holder was the standout for Sudbury with 24 points off the bench, while Mareik Isom made an impressionable appearance for London with 30 bench points himself, while his team mate Garrett Williamson added 20 of his own as well as a game-high 9 rebounds.

Both teams will be back in action on the first NBL Canada games of 2020, which will take place on January 2nd.
