St. John's Edge vs Halifax Hurricanes: December 29th Game Recap

Both the St. John's Edge and Halifax Hurricanes had lost their opening games days earlier, and were looking to bounce back at this second meeting for both teams at the Scotiabank Centre.

After a close start to the game, both Ta'Quan Zimmerman and Chris Johnson erupted for the Hurricanes, who finished the first quarter with 13 unanswered points. Continuing this form into the second quarter, they had their largest lead of the game at 21.

The Edge put themselves in the driver's seat in the third quarter, behind the offensive work of both Tyrone Watson and Cane Broome, outscoring their hosts 40-21 and leading the Hurricanes by eight points ahead of the fourth.

Halifax quickly made up the difference when play resumed, making it a one-possession game much of the way throughout the game's conclusion. Chris Johnson put the Hurricanes in front with a minute to go and Tremayne Johnson added the last points of the game and the last of his game-high 23 to see out the victory, 112-108.

Tyrone Watson and Junior Cadougan both broke the twenty-point mark, with 21 and 20 respectively for St. John's, while Montay Brandon tallied a double-double - 12 points and 15 rebounds - in the loss.

Antoine Mason also finished with a double-double, 15 points and 11 rebounds for Halifax, while team captain Cliff Clinkscales dished 15 assists in Halifax's first win of the season. Both teams will be back in action on New Year's Eve.
