Moncton Magic vs St. John's Edge - NBLC Pre-Season Recap


This meeting at the Mile One Centre between last year’s NBL Canada finalists was the last pre-season preparations both teams had ahead of the regular season start next week.

The St. John’s Edge, with their all-new roster, were looking to head into the new season on a high and revenger for the 4-0 routing in the finals, while the Moncton Magic, the most active team in pre-season, were looking to head into the regular season with a winning record out of their five early exhibition games.

In the game itself, St. John’s made the bigger offensive push in a closely-fought first quarter, which ended with the Magic behind by two points. When the game resumed, however, the Magic stepped up their defence and with Marcus Lewis leading the charge while in possession, they turned the game around, leading by eight at half-time.

The Edge worked as a unit to try and put Moncton on the back foot, but there was

Ronald Delph and Wayne McCullough combined on offence to keep the advantage with the visitors. Completely in control of the fourth period, the Magic held forth and cruised home to victory, 104-88.

Jesse Jones led the Edge with 16 points while Montay Brandon had 13 off the bench, as well as six rebounds, five assists and steals. These were small crumbs of comfort for a team seemingly still trying to

Moncton’s Ronald Delph was the stand-out with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Wayne McCullough who had 18 points and 8 rebounds. They were two of four players of the Magic to finish in double digits.

The Moncton Magic will next be seen in the NBLC season opener against the Island Storm on December 26th, the following day they will meet the St. John's Edge again in the Edge's season opener, which will be played in Moncton.
