2019-20 NBL Canada Season: First Transactions Recap
There's still some time before we can expect to see action on the NBL Canada courts again, but preparations for the 2019-20 season have already began. The first transactions of the ninth NBLC year have been made, and in case you missed any of them, here is a quick recap of what's happened so far:
September 6th: Doug Plumb appointed London Lightning head coach
Plumb had previously served as assistant to Kyle Julius on the Lightning’s 2016-17 season, where they won their record third championship. He then assisted Jeff Dunlap for the St. John’s Edge’s inaugural season, promoted to head coach the following year, but left before they reached the finals.
September 4th: Moncton sign Jeremiah Mordi
Saint John won’t be coming back to the NBLC, but Jeremiah Mordi will. After two seasons with the Riptide, where he posted career averages of 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, Mordi looks to help the Magic retain their title in 2019-20.
August 30th: Wayne McCullough re-signs with the Magic
After seeing breakthrough numbers in Moncton - 9.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in 2018-19, where he won his and the team’s first league championship - McCullough was quick to re-negotiate his contract in hopes of doing it all again this upcoming season.
August 22nd: Halifax trade Malcolm Duvivier to Sudbury for Chris Johnson rights
Duvivier, who made 48 appearances and averaged 8.2 points in his rookie year with the Hurricanes, will now be applying his trade in Sudbury. The Five, meanwhile, deal the rights to Chris Johnson, who averaged 13.9 points per game for the Cape Breton Highlanders in 2018-19, for Duvivier.
August 21st: Moncton re-sign Jason Calliste
The shooting guard’s contribution to the Magic’s winning season was an average of 9.4 points in 43 games, most of which he came in off the bench, which merited a second spell with the team.
More developments and NBLC trades and transactions will be reported as they happen. Check back with us for regular updates.
