Edmonton back in action at 3x3 Limassol Challenger

Edmonton, who have quickly become one of the top ten-ranked 3x3 teams in their first season on the professional circuit, took to the court once again, this time in southern Cyprus for the Limassol Challenger.

The prize here, as well as another title, was a place in the Prague Masters tournament in August. With a strong field taking to the courts in the challenger - the likes of Amsterdam, Piran, NY Harlem and Lausanne in the draw - those places would be highly contested.

Drawn into Pool D, Edmonton opened their campaign with a 18-13 win over Slovenian team Domzale, with Kyle Landry scoring nine points for the Canadian team. They then faced Beijing, who needed a win to stay alive after they lost to Domzale. Despite the best efforts of Hengyi Liu and Huai Jiang, Edmonton proved too much from close range for Beijing.

Winning the second pool game 21-16, Edmonton topped the group and set up a meeting on day two with Piran, who finished second in Pool B after a surprise loss to Sakiai, 18-16. Even so, Piran are not a team to be taken lightly, and they faced an uncertain road through the rest of the tournament.

When the tournament resumed the next day, Edmonton suffered their quarter final curse once more. Despite Jordan Jensen-Whyte leading the scoring with eight points, Piran prevailed by a single point. Edmonton would go no further in Limassol.

Piran, meanwhile, went on to defeat Vbras in the semi-finals, while NY Harlem overcame Domzale after their quarter final defeat of Amsterdam to reach the final themselves. In the deciding game NY Harlem's Dominique Jones led the scoring and Antoinne Morgano took care of defence, leading to them pull out one last win, 21-16, but a very important one as it netted them the Limassol Challenger title.

While Edmonton were unsuccessful, Kyle Landry led the team with 7.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. They will have another chance to qualify for the Prague Masters in July's Belgrade Challenger.
