NBLC Finals 2019 - Game 4

The NBL Canada championship comes to Moncton for the first time, following the Moncton Magic's walkover of the St. John's Edge in this year's finals.

The Magic came into game four of this year's finals needing only a single win to take home the title. As if being 3-0 down wasn't bad enough for the Edge, they were without one of their key players, Carl English, who sat this one out with an injury.

While dropping up seven three pointers, Moncton put up forty points in the first quarter alone, the most coming from Trey Kell and Marcus Lewis. They went into Q2 leading by twenty points, a buffer they managed to maintain for much of the period, going on to their biggest lead of the game at 25.

Desmond Lee and Glen Davis did well from the field to try and keep St. John's alive, but the Edge were overwhelmed in the first half. A final three-pointer from Kell saw the Magic lead the Edge 72-50 at half time.

Lee and Murphy Burnatowski led the Edge in cutting down the deficit to single digits in the third quarter, where they out-scored the Magic by ten points, but Moncton’s rampant offence continued into the second half.

In the final period the Edge got to within six points, with Lee scoring his last sixteen points in the quarter to bring his total up to 43. His team mate Glen Davis was second on the team with 28. With Kell still as deadly on offence, with Jason Calliste and Billy White also contributing plenty on the front court, the writing was on the wall.

The high-scoring fourth game finished 130-120 in the Magic's favour. For the first time the NBL Canada championship was won by a team from Moncton, and the first time it was won by a whitewash. With 41 points in the title-deciding game, Trey Kell completed a series performance that earned him the Finals MVP award.

Both teams have been terrific throughout the season, and in the case of the Magic they cap off their 2018-19 run by completing the dream of bringing home the title and the trophy.
