MONvsHAL - Game 2 Recap
The second game in the Atlantic Division finals took place on April 20th at the Avenir Centre.
The Moncton Magic were looking to make use of their home-court advantage and even out the series, while the Halifax Hurricanes were looking to extend their advantage in advance of the series moving to Nova Scotia later in the week.
After Halifax put in a commanding first quarter performance, at the end of which they Moncton by 30 points to 22, the visiting team then fell apart in the second, scoring only eight points. Led on offence by Trey Kell, the Magic first cut their deficit and then finished the first half ahead by five.
Terry Thomas gave his all as he tried to re-ignite the Hurricanes as the second half got underway, on his way to finish the game with 20 points. Mike Poole gave Halifax back the lead mid-way through the third, but Gentrey Thomas got the advantage back for the Magic, who led by three at the end of the penultimate period.
In the fourth quarter, on three occasions Halifax closed the gap to one possession, only for Moncton to stretch it out again. Nine unanswered points down the stretch saw the Magic take their largest lead of the game, eleven points, and end the forty minutes ahead 96-88.
Poole had 22 points for Halifax while Chadrack Lufile recorded 15 points and 13 rebounds in the game two loss, while Trey Kell led the victorious Magic with 28 points and Billy White contributed 22 as the league leaders level the series at one game apiece.
Game Three will take place on April 27th in Halifax's Scotiabank Centre.
