NBLC Playoffs Recap: April 4th

The playoffs are finally here, and the first two games in both the Atlantic and Central Division semi-finals saw some unexpected results.

After a close first quarter, the Halifax Hurricanes went thirteen points clear of the Cape Breton Highlanders, who responded in kind, levelling the scores at half-time. There was little to separate the teams for the remainder of this lively and exciting game, and after a number of lead changes down the stretch, a Devin Sweetney three would be the deciding play in the Highlanders' favour.

It was the last of Sweetney’s 27 points in the game, to go with 12 rebounds. 33 points from Terry Thomas off the Halifax bench would not be enough to win the game for the hosts, as Cape Breton take game one by two points.

London Lightning had the advantage in a lacklustre first half at the Gardens against the KW Titans. Though the home team contested every ball, saw great bench production and 22 points from Garrett Williamson, they lost the lead just ahead of the fourth quarter, where they went to pieces.

The Titans showed no mercy, out-scoring them by 22 points en route to a big game one upset. With 28 points and 9 rebounds, Akeem Ellis was close to a double-double and Flenard Whitfield contributed 24 in the Titans 119-95 routing of the Lightning.
