Rhamel Brown wins DPOY Honours

The 2018-19 Defensive Player of the Year title has gone to Halifax Hurricanes centre Rhamel Brown.

Brown appeared in 38 games for the Hurricanes this season. In which, he averaged 5.0 rebounds on the defensive end, 7.3 in total, which puts him in the top ten overall rebounders in all the league. He led the entire NBLC in blocked shots in 2018-19 as well, recording 66 in the season.

On the other end, Brown averaged shooting 60% from the field, the leading field goal average for all of the league this year.

It was his defensive efforts, though, that he is most being celebrated for. Leading Halifax's defence, he helped the team overcome a turbulent start to the season to finish second in the Atlantic Division and end with the second-best win-loss record overall.

This was Brown’s third season as a professional and second both on the Halifax roster and in the NBLC, but this year takes his first piece of silverware.

Previous winners include current KW Titans coach Cavell Johnson and Al Stewart, who won the award twice with the then-Summerside Storm.

Halifax will be hoping he keeps his defensive efforts up when they take on the Cape Breton Highlanders in the first round of the 2019 playoffs.
