Guillaume Boucard is Canadian Player of the Year
The first piece of NBLC end-of-season silverware has been handed out, and honours go to Island Storm guard Guillaume Boucard as the Canadian Player of the Year.
The Montreal native's 2018-19 season has not been straightforward - starting out with the St. John's Edge, he was later traded to the Island Storm for Brad States. He hasn't let league politics distract him from his game, though.
Averaging 19.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, as well as being named Player of the Week on two occasions, Boucard ranks sixth in both scoring and rebounding in all of the league and seventh in assists.
He builds on his stats of last year, where he turned heads after posting 14.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the Niagara River Lions in his NBLC debut season. Scooping up his first league honours definitely signals Boucard as a big talent and future prospect in the league.
"He is a very talented and hardworking player, and just as importantly, a very good teammate," Island Storm coach Tim Kendrick said of the news. "He has been a model of consistency both on court and off since joining our franchise. He is a very deserving recipient of this award."
Past recipients of this award include Carl English (who won MVP the same season), Terry Thomas and Garrett Williamson.
Boucard's playing time this season is almost at an end, however, as the Storm will not be appearing in this year's playoffs. However, fans the league over are already looking forward to seeing him on the NBL Canada courts again in 2019-2020.
